I correct scars of the face and body with many years of experience. Scar revision requires specialized expertise, as several characteristics determine how visible a scar appears. These include width and length, differences in color and texture, and contour irregularities including depressions or elevations, which may cause disruptive light and shadow effects.
Hardening and an unnatural tissue feel may also prompt the desire for scar correction. Thickened, raised scars are referred to as hypertrophic scars and must be distinguished from keloids.
Keloids are benign tissue overgrowths that often grow in a nodular or bulbous fashion and extend beyond the original scar. Keloids require a long-term treatment strategy, often extending over several years.

Which body areas do I treat?

I perform scar correction in the head and neck region, scars following cesarean section or abdominal surgery, breast surgery scars, and other areas. You are welcome to submit a preliminary inquiry with photographs as outlined below.

Which scar revision techniques are available?

A wide range of techniques can significantly reduce the visibility of scars:

Surgical repositioning of scars or alteration of their direction
Excision of conspicuous scars and replacement with a finer, less noticeable scar
Polishing or resurfacing techniques to improve surface irregularities
Treatment of depressed scars using autologous fat grafting
Laser treatments to improve contour, texture, and pigmentation

Injections of small amounts of corticosteroid-containing medications can reduce inflammatory reactions and, in selected cases, positively influence scar color and texture.
Muscle activity may interfere with wound healing in the early phase. Botulinum toxin injections can temporarily relax the underlying musculature and thereby have a beneficial effect on scar development.

Which scar revision technique is right for you?

Both the choice of technique and the timing of treatment require a high level of experience. Optimal results are often achieved only through a combination of different methods applied at different time points.
A thorough examination and personal consultation are essential to develop an individualized treatment concept.

When can scar treatment be performed?

Timing must be determined individually. Some scars benefit from early intervention, while others require tissue maturation over up to one year before corrective treatment is advisable.

Can I contribute to better healing?

My team and I provide you with detailed postoperative instructions, including guidance on UV and sun avoidance, whether tension-reducing tapes should be used, and when mechanical stress may be resumed.

What effect does Botulinum Toxin have on scars?

I was the first to describe worldwide the technique of stabilizing healing wounds through botulinum toxin injections.
In certain facial regions—such as the forehead, cheeks, or around the mouth—muscle activity significantly influences wound healing. By injecting botulinum toxin, the musculature can be weakened for approximately three months, allowing the healing wound to remain more stable and heal more favorably.
For optimal effect, botulinum toxin treatment of healing wounds should be initiated as early as possible. If a wound is older than four weeks, the beneficial effect of botulinum toxin on scar formation decreases.

Treatment concept for keloids

Over more than 20 years, I have developed a treatment concept that significantly reduces the recurrence of keloids. This approach requires regular follow-up visits and brief treatments at intervals of 4 to 12 weeks over a prolonged period—at least three years. You therefore need to be able to travel to our office at regular intervals.
